Student Profile

Hey year 6, I'm Osian. Some of you may remember me from last year or not. But until you guys are at senior school I'm gonna be giving you some profiles and general things we do in senior school to sum up all of the other blogs submitted by my fellow classmates.

Like me and most of my friends at the time ; we were worrying are brains out of our heads about homework, teacher expectations and more homework. And yes. We do get a considerate amount of homework everyday. Yet manageable But more so than junior school. And boy do we miss that. However the homework we get isn't that big at all!  In fact it's just usually to finish the last bits of tasks we didn't complete in class.

So let's talk about the school day and what there is to be scared about. Haha! I'm just kidding. There's nothing in this land you need to be scared about in senior school. In fact, the day seems to actually go quicker than usual. Despite the fact that our day is 25 minutes longer than yours. It all starts with form time. Which is where we spend 40 minutes with our form tutor. Who takes care of the daily bulletin, sport news and the register.

Then we make our way to our 1st period. The day has 8 periods in total. Some lessons take up 2 periods which we call a double lesson. They are 1:20 mins. However we get a 5 mins lesson changeover between periods. If you are in a double lesson you stay in that lesson until both periods have ended. Now let's talk about Enrichment. Enrichment is a little change in the daily timetable once every week. His makes the day longer by 20 mins and the lessons shorter by 15. We do this so we spend an extra 20 mins in our form classes to catch-up on projects and cool assignments our head of year gives us. Some of these include year book designing

Drama and Musicals

In senior school, we have a lesson called Drama. This is a lesson where you act, sing and dance. Something that we love about Drama is that we get to be a whole new person. This is really fun because we do not have to act like ourselves, we change our personalities to fit the roles given and sometimes we even get to make our own! We also get to be in groups with classmates that we may not know which makes a great way to connect with the new people that have joined your class if there new or if they were with you through year 6.

One of the best things about Drama are the musicals (school plays) that we do each year. This is a great way to make friends, boost your confidence and maybe even find a passion in Drama. To get a good role you have to audition. It may sound nerve wracking, but it is a lot less scary than you may think. When you audition for a role you stand in front of the Drama and Music teachers and sing the best you can. Then comes callbacks. Callbacks are when the teachers think you did well in your audition and want to hear you sing another song. They may also ask you to act or dance. After that there are rehearsals. You need to be very committed to make sure you come to every rehearsal. This means having a clear schedule. We found that the musicals we present are the best way to meet new people. The productions range from ages 11-18 which means that you can have friends of different ages. But the senior school productions are different in the way that we do not recruit parents to help with hair, makeup and backstage which was what may have happened in Year 6.

This year's production was Legally Blonde. I (Annalise) played a Delta Nu. Delta Nus are the main character's best friends. Jenny (who is also helping me write this) played a chorus part. Even though we both did not play a main character, it was one of the best and most fun experience we have had all year. Rehearsals were our favourite. Even though rehearsals sound very strict, rehearsals were the most fun we have had doing the production (along with many other things) because we loved practicing dances, singing and acting out our parts and having a lot of fun with our friends.

I really hope you guys enjoy senior school as much as we do and get involved with as much as you can.

ECA's

ECA's also known as Extra Curicular Activitys. Football, basketball, volleyball, short tennis, Pizza Poetry Prose, badminton, water polo, rowing club, street netball, high jump are just some of the ECA's that occur every year at different times. Here is our recommendations to you first get involved in everything that you can if you even want a chance in getting in BSME. ECAs aren't just sports; Even though most of them are. But always to rember to bring your school uniform after the ECA's because you will get in trouble with your next teacher sometimes and also if you dont get a chance to eat just ask your next teacher they wont eat you if you ask. Like me I didn't take every chance I had and i missed out on BSME so don't do the same thing that I did

One tip that helped me last year was were the main lesson classrooms were: Science is on the first floor, English on the second and Maths on the third and last floor.

Swimming pool: You can enjoy swimming in your swimming lesson outdoors, you will have a 3 minute warm up at the begging of the lesson so that you are ready to do the activity set for you, you will learn many skills so that you can swim nicely.

Art department: You will be able to design your own font and learn new skills in art so that you can creat lovely art pieces, you can also visit the art exhibition and see students art work.

Football pitch: The football pitch is outdoors, you will sometimes play sports games there in your PE lesson, sport ECA's take place their.
Basketball pitch: You can play basketball, there in break with your friends and have a good time.

Drama department: In drama you will play many fun games, and you will learn different ways of acting and get feedback so that you can make your acting skills better. You will do many fun activities and have a great time.

DT department : You will do many different projects using different machines.
You will use different applications on computers for some projects, you will always need your iPad as you will have a slides to complete for your projects. You will create thinks that are useful for your house and some for your belongings like your headphones.

Tuck shop : The Tuck shop will be open in the morning before school so that you can buy breakfast snacks. I'm first break you will be able to buy a hot meal, snacks, water,chocolates,yogurt, juices, drinks and ice cream. You will also be able to buy some of these treats after school as well.

Forms: You will always go to your form room in the morning for 20 minutes however on enrichment days you will stay there for 1 hour. Your forms might be a place where you could spend break times, however, you have to ask your form tutor if you can.

Library: You will have one library lesson in a week, you will be able to go and read the book of your choice while sitting in one of the corners, or the tables, or the couch or the bean bags. Every Wednesday you can go to the library and hear a teacher or another student read to you while you eat a brownie for free this is called bean bags and brownies. However, on Thursday you can go in break to the library and you will hear a teacher or another student read to you while you eat a slice of pizza this is casket pizza poetry and prose.

Science lab: In some of your science lessons you will do an experiment, you will use different chemicals and different methods to find out the answer to your question.

Computing: There are 7 computer labs in the school, you will use different applications to create many things. One of the computer labs will be available in break time if you need to finish of some homework or print out something or have fun and play.

Basketball court: In break times you can go to the basketball court and enjoy playing a game with your friends and in the same time you can practice in improving your basketball skills.

Benches: There are benches all over the school, you can sit down in the morning and do whatever you want, however, in break times you can eat, chat with your friends and play. There are some benches near the basketball court you would like to watch.

Music department: There are many different music instruments, you will have many projects to complete. Over to the end of the year you will create your own lesson on any musical topic and will have to present it to your classmates and teacher.

Sorts hall: The sports hall is usually where your PE lessons will take place. It is a very big hall and many sports will take place as there is a store room with all the equipment needed.

Gym:  The gym is for girls in one of there PE lesson, dance, it is also the place where you practice warm ups for the ski trip.

School hall: The school hall is where you have important meet and greets with your parents and also some important assemblies.

Year 7 Challenge Day

Year 7 Challenge Day

Year 7 challenge day is when your head of year gives you and your group a challenge. The challenge for year 7s 2016-2017 was to make a drink or dish from the country we were assigned to.

The main point of Challenge Day is to work in a team and create amazing products. Later, at the end of the day, judges such as Mr Williams, Mr Wilson and your head of year, alongside other visitors will formally criticise your products. In the end, there will be a winning group who have won the Challenge day for your year group.

When you come to school on Challenge Day, you will have already been told your group name which you will have to be part of during the day. This year, year 7s were assigned to country names and had to create products from the countries. 2 representatives from each group had 10 BD and went to Lulu supermarket to buy ingredients or things for the products they were going to make. We make posters and banner too to advertise and make our stalls attractive. Everyone in the group had a job to do and was involved.

Challenge Day is really fun and interesting because you get to meet new people and work with them. It's a day full of excitement and enthusiasm.

Timetable And Timings

Timetable

First, registration. The school day starts at 7:50 AM and ends at 2:40 PM. Although, from 7:10 AM to 7:50 AM there is early morning french (which is optional) , each period lasts forty minutes.
First break starts at 10:55 AM (which lasts fifty minutes) and second break starts at 1:05 PM (which lasts fifteen minutes)

After period 2 there is a five minute lesson changeover, after periods 3 and 4 first break starts. Then there is periods 5 and 6, then after there is second break. After that, there is periods 7 and 8. Then, home time.

Every week there is an enrichment day, enrichment is after registration. Every period on an enrichment day is five minutes shorter. Although this doesn't affect lesson changeover, first break or second break.

Lessons

 The teachers are always nice, we always learn in a fun way such as practicals in Science in History presentations in French we play games is a really good way to study in DT we made a box lantern and it had shapes and a lightbulb inside it looked really nice. We also made a desk tidy to hold letters hold pens and pencils.

 Then we made a sprite to stop the struggle of life, earphones getting tangled well that's what my ones for. We also made a photo frame to keep photos. We also get a lot of homework but the homework is never longer than like 15 minutes but you won't always get homework you'll get at least one a week.

 All the teachers are nice and are never mean. You always have 5 minutes between the 2 bells to go to your next lesson. If you're late your teacher will give you a chance the first time but the third time your teacher might get mad. On the first day your teacher won't get mad because the school is confusing I kind of missed the whole day because I got lost and none of my teachers were mad since it was the first week. Double lessons are 1 hr and 20 minutes and one lesson is 40 minutes.

Try to always leave 5 minutes to go to class in break. In DT we do practical work most of time and other lessons we sometimes do practical work to make it more fun and easier to learn. The teachers most of the time find fun and good ways to study.

• Stay in form class depending on weather conditions .
• Use the playground to play games or walk around .
• Buy food and eat your food in the tuck shop if you want. 
• Play games on your device in the phone zone or your form room. 
• Hang out with your friends around school.

SPORTS DAY 

Sports Day is a greatly praised event due to the fact it's very fun and competitive and  truly shows the people who are in it to win it and have trained long and hard. Not only does it have small mini games to the side of the stadium but it also has food and drinks in the back. When you get there you will be sorted into sections for each house but by the end of the day it becomes a jumbled mess since everyone meets up with their friends and watch the events together, this also leads to meeting new people, which is also another thing sports day is about. Be sure to sign up for as many events as you can because you will most certainly regret it once you get there. If you are worried on what clothes you can wear don't be afraid, the PE department are flexible and allow you to wear leggings with a PE top, under armor with your PE kit on top or just a normal PE kit.

General Tips For Senior School

General Tips 

1. Don't be nervous. The work isn't as hard as you think and the teachers are really nice and helpful for anything you may have trouble with.
2. Try to get a schedule for staying organised because, you will get a lot more homework than in juniour school but, this is good because it will get you prepared for later years and remember to never procrastinate you do not want stress as it will only make it worse.
3. If you ever find yourself lost in the beginning of the year don't be afraid to ask an older student or a teacher for help it's normal and your class teacher won't get angry. It just may take a while to get used to the layout of the school.
4. Now at senior school you will take your books back home with you so make sure you have a specific spot which is safe for your books at home and just bring the right books for that day otherwise your bag will get very heavy.
5. Stay out of any trouble and just don't stress senior school is really fun.
